The August Before Everything Changed…

At the time, I thought I was simply making changes around the house. Things were being moved, removed and rearranged, and spaces were beginning to look completely different. I didn’t know what all of it meant yet. I just knew I felt led to prepare.

The next thing to go was the deck. At the time, it felt like another project another thing around the house that .Another thing around the house that needed attention. But looking back I can see a pattern forming. I wasn't only rearranging what was there anymore. Things were actually being removed.

Piece by piece the space was opening up.

And I didn't fully understand it yet but August was teaching me that preparation isn't always about adding something new. Sometimes preparation looks like clearing, releasing, pulling up and making room.

What has served its purpose in one season didn't necessarily belong in the next.

If I had to describe August in one phrase, it would be: get up and do.
If I had to describe August in one phrase, it would be: get up and do.

There wasn’t a lot of time to sit around trying to figure everything out. It was move this. Remove that. Pull this up. Clear that out. Fix this. Prepare that. One thing after another, almost faster than I could process why I was doing any of it.

Prepare. Prepare. Prepare.

Looking back, I realize August didn’t require me to understand the entire plan. It required me to respond to what was in front of me. There were floors being changed, spaces being rearranged, things being removed, projects being completed, and decisions being made. On the surface, it looked like I was simply getting my house together.

But something deeper was happening.

God was teaching me to move when He said move—even when I didn’t have the full picture yet. August was less about knowing where I was going and more about becoming willing to go.

By the end of the month, I was tired. A lot had moved. A lot had changed. And still, I didn’t fully understand what all of this preparation was for.

I just knew something was shifting.

And then September came.

That’s when the things I had been doing with my hands began connecting to what God was doing in my heart. The preparation started making sense. The releasing became more personal. And what had felt like a month of simply getting up and doing began to reveal that I had been making room all along.

August was the preparation. September would begin to reveal what I was being prepared for.
